As international adoption is a topic that is not discussed much in our community, our club fosters discussion and awareness about the many facets of adoption and families in the United States through our Outreach program.
This program arranges events with other clubs on campus, the parents of our young buddies, and the One Sky Foundation to educate others about adoption. In addition, we want a “Mentoring the Mentors” support system for our student members where the parents of our little buddies graciously volunteer to help mentor our college students as they mentor their children.
Past events have included showings of documentaries focusing on adoption, parent panels discussing adoption, graduate school information sessions, resume and interview workshops, and more.
For this upcoming year, we are talking with our founding One Sky Foundation organization about arranging for some of our members to participate in their summer volunteer program. This will be the third year where our members will get a chance to travel to China with other China Care Club members and volunteer at a Chinese orphanage during the summer. This is an amazing opportunity and we are working hard to establish this program.
One of our members, Michelle, shares what her experience was like volunteering at the Chunhui China Care Home in Beijing, China during Summer 2017:
“My experience in Beijing at the Chunhui China Care Home changed my life. Through China Care Bruins and OneSky, I was able to spend ten amazing days in Beijing in which I not only got to spend time with the most precious babies but also explore some beautiful sights. Spending time with the babies was my favorite part, though, as it allowed me to make a difference and give them the physical and loving care they really long for.” – Michelle Vu
We are so excited to announce that two of our members, Wendy Ao and Sadie Larson, volunteered in a OneSky medical care home for young children in China during Summer 2018! Both Wendy and Sadie have now graduated, but they are still a part of the CCB family through our Alumni Network!
